there's a song on new amerykah that i cant stop listening to....it's called the healer/hip hop. but i love the majority of the songs. and all the
stuff in the booklet is amazing. |
the only kaki king album i don't have is Legs To Make Us Longer. i've listened to it on rhapsody.com, it's a pretty solid album, a little more
polished than Everybody Loves You. i'll eventually go out and buy that, but not before i get her new album, which i just found out that it
comes out tomorrow. i'm looking quite forward to this new one. her last album, ...Until We Felt Red, found her straying away from solo acoustic slap
techniques in favor of a more melodic, electric guitar and band oriented singer/songwriter style, and just an overall more experimental vibe. this new
album sounds more like a foray into indie rock territory, with more emphasis on flexing her singer/songwriter muscle. if you check out her myspace
page, the first three songs are from the new album. the first two songs sound great, and the third song...i almost shit myself because it's so much
different from anything she's made, even from her last album. needless to say, i'm quite looking forward to this album.
so in summary, i'd suggest you at the very least sample some of her previous albums and get a feel for the many sides of kaki king. rhapsody.com has
all of her albums up for listening.
i think the song that definitely hooked me when i sampled New Amerykah at Borders was The Cell. Twinkle also sticks out in my head. Oh the plight of
being poor.

I've been feeling D&C ever since it came in the mail last week. I've already figured out how to play Walking on guitar.
I've also been listening to a group from Ireland called Oppenheimer, electronica with rock and pop influences. Very catchy! Definitely digging them
right about now.

Oppenheimer eh? Never heard of them...must check them out.
D&C definitely was different to what I expected, which is probably a good thing...Eulogy had led me to expect something mostly punchy with that
kinda affirmational energy...but the dark, angry factor i didn't see coming. And the slow songs I dig too. What I do love (as usual) is the raw
honesty of it, and the whole thing is very innovative sounding too. And it's a grower.
No lyric booklet though

i'm listening to Peach by Dappled Cities Fly (Now just Dappled Cities) mixed in with some Chillout sessions 7, some jeff buckley and feist. a
delicious recipe for my everyday going-abouts.

i just got a copy of the newest pinback record. there's a human drummer playing on most of it (the guy from no knife, i believe) which is a welcomed
change. i lose my focus at points, but it's pretty badass, if you like that kind of thing.

I just listened to the music I bought off of iTunes through headphones and now I'm going back to buying CDs. I forgot how horrible music sounds when
it's been compressed.
